A lot of people are thinking about e-commerce and putting up their own online businesses. But, putting up your own venture is just one thing; making it successful is another.

Today, I am going to talk about the fundamentals of e-commerce marketing that you can use in 2020 and beyond.

The ‘Position Zero’

I think it is pretty safe to say that we all use search engines, right? And, Google happens to be the most popular search engine today.

That being said, when you use the said search engine to find whatever it is that you are looking for, you might come across some websites that are immediately featured on the top of the page. This is known as the ‘position zero’ in the SERPs.

Back in the day, people are always clamoring for the first spot in the SERPs, but ever since Google implemented position zero, that is now their main goal.

To achieve the topmost spot in the SERPs, you will have to use a combination of website optimizations, link building, and other under the hood things that will help improve your page ranks.

Keep in mind that although your website can be featured on position zero, you may not hold the top crown for so long since it is a highly-coveted spot.

Sell on Amazon

Amazon is, without a doubt, the biggest online retailer in the entire world. And, since it is the biggest e-commerce platform today, you can sort of ride on its coattails to gain massive success.

What I mean is that you are going to sell your products directly on the Amazon page. This is not to say that you are not going to put up your e-commerce website, but this is to say that you sell to another platform in conjunction with your main base of operations (which is your online store).

Selling on Amazon can really improve sales as a 2019 report revealed that 32% of Americans actually buy stuff from the said platform.

The Use of ‘Semantic’ SEO

When people implement SEO strategies, they would usually have to use mainly short-tail keywords because people are more focused on using one or two words to find something. However, with the advent of new technology, virtual assistants have become a major thing and the use of what is known as semantic SEO has begun.

Instead of just using one or two-word keywords, you have to think about using key phrases. The reason why you should do this is that it comes out more naturally when people utter the phrase to their voice assistants.

This will certainly change the way search engines are used. Therefore, you have to think about implementing semantic SEO from here on out.

Chatbots

Although hiring customer service representatives is okay, chatbots have become more mainstream and are actually providing business owners with a means to communicate with their customers in a more efficient way.

Therefore, you do not have to spend actual resources in paying real people but rather use AI technology to converse with your customers instead.
